How this is measured, and what is for sale

Every board on this site is one buying question with one count behind it. This page is the method, in one place, so it does not have to be restated on each board.

The method

For each question we search the way a buyer would, take the articles that currently rank for it — the pages an assistant retrieves before it answers — and read each one in full. We record every product it names and the rank it gave. A tool's score is how many of those sources name it. Where we have also asked an assistant the question directly, those answers are counted the same way and shown as their own columns.

That is the whole method. It is a measure of coverage in the retrievable corpus, not a quality rating: we do not review, test, or score the products themselves. A tool can be excellent and score low here, and the site says so rather than implying otherwise.

What we publish about every source

Its URL, and the date we read it.
A label for what it sells: independent, affiliate links, or vendor-authored.
Whether it ranks its own product first — marked on the row, and still counted, because dropping it would misrepresent the corpus an assistant actually reads.
An archived copy, so any number here can be checked against the page it came from.
Anything that ranked but was excluded, and why.

What is for sale, exactly

Two slots per board, above the answer, labelled paid on every row. Rank between sponsors is standing; standing decays 8% a day, so holding a spot means topping it up. The floor climbs each midnight UTC. The measured ranking below is not for sale at any price — and neither are the outbound links: every tool on every board links to its own site, free, whether or not anyone has ever paid us.
